Sandy701's Journal, 03 Dec 10

Walked 3.8 miles this AM. It was chilly again, but at least I could go with a lighter coat and not the winter one. The doggies went along for 2.6 miles.

I had a nice time yesterday beginning to shop for Angel Tree gifts for the tree at our church. I wrote in Laurie's (Laupug's) journal that I found a great deal on diapers, which was a requested gift item for this family's infant. The diaper packages even had "additional $3 off" coupons on them! Well, I went to the place next door for something else only to find they were having a mega-special on a different, but similar, brand of diapers. The entire deal saved me $3 AND bought nearly 30 extra diapers! Well, I couldn't pass that up. So, I traipsed back to the first store (because I was right there anyway) and stood in line at the return counter to return the first packages I bought. Even though it took some time, I was beaming when I left because I had ultimately found a really great deal. There's a dollar limit on each of the gifts, so that the families are treated relatively equally. But that doesn't mean I can't look for great bargains to make the money go further. Anyway, I found other good deals to complete 1 gift. Just 2 more Angels to go and one of them means I get to shop in Toyland!!! Oh joy!!!

Tonight, I had spaghetti squash for the first time in I can't remember how long. Boy, did that hit the spot! We tried a new red spaghetti sauce that has 4 net carbs in a half cup. Very, very tasty. I saw another brand of red sauce at the store today that had only 2 net carbs so I should probably go back and get some.

The weather has warmed up a bit today, getting to the mid-60's and it should be just a few degrees warmer tomorrow before another cold front comes through. So, I've got steaks marinating to go on the grill tomorrow while it's still nice grilling weather.

I even managed to get a small amount of Christmas shopping for DH done today. He was in a very good mood today, as he passed the new physical fitness test at work. He's never, ever had any issue with the ever-changing fitness tests in his entire career, but the new regulations this year had been giving him fits. Months ago, he said he expected to fail due to the new girth restrictions. He thought it would be physically impossible for him to ever meet the new requirements. Thanks to a few months on Atkins, he DID pass today, so he's a very happy camper. He realizes, though, that he was very close to failing, so he's got a bit more work to do to give him some breathing room for the next time he tests. It was kinda cool in that he thanked me for being on Atkins in the first place. He said if I hadn't been doing it, he might not have really committed to doing it too and would have ended up failing.

Sounds like a wonderful day, Sandy. Shopping for those kinds of gifts is so much fun, and getting the most for your dollar makes it even better....I am very happy for your hubby that he was able to pass his physical fitness test. Those military physicals are tough. Thank him for his service for me, will you? And thank you also for your service!

Will do....and thanks for giving thought to family members! His fitness test is comprised of only the girth measurement as he's now medically exempted from the other portions. And because he's only allowed to complete 1 portion of the "test," he must attain an even lower girth measurement; don't ask me why, it's just one of the strange quirks in this new system.

Wow, that doesn't seem quite fair!
