Sandy701's Journal, 22 Oct 10

Walked 3.1 miles today; weekly total 17.1 and challenge total 71.4 miles with just one more day to go, as I am taking Sunday off.

Feeling a bit off on exercise, tired, achey, etc. I went SPLAT on Saturday (3x now in the past year!) tripping over a wooden concrete expansion piece by someone's driveway. It turns out, the whole wooden piece had swollen and it's higher than the surrounding concrete. It seems like not much, but my DH discovered that if you step on the one side, it lifts the other side even higher! Well, that morning, we were walking side by side and he thinks he probably stepped on it, lifting my side as I was going over. In a split second when I realized I was going down, I didn't want to go down with bare knees on concrete, so I purposely turned and fell on the side of my hip, rolling a bit on my shoulder, as well. I was up and going on fairly quickly but I developed a baseball size bruise and lump on the side of my upper leg. It's definitely improved, but I wonder if it's added some aches and pains. Nothing major, just irritating.

I'm also disappointed that my weight didn't drop. Usually, I see a drop on either Wed or Thurs. I'm close to 187, but I was close a week ago, then went up (less than a pound)and have now come back to this close-to-187. It's not a stall or anything, it's just a bit frustrating that just when you think you've got everything figured out, your body decides it's going to do something different. Well, I'll press on and I know the scale will eventually move.

On the bright side, yesterday I had to break out a pair of size 16 shorts. This was my $1 thrift store pair that I could almost wear a month or so back, but they were snug across my stomach. I haven't tried them recently, but put them on yesterday. Now they're perfect and almost bordering on a loose fit. Time to pull out my eBay finds in size 16 and see how they fit.

ADDED LATER: My dinner looks like Veggie City, but it's because I ate up the last cup of the Pumpkin Chili, about a cup of leftover mixed veggies, a small salad plus some pork tenderloin.

Sandy, I am sorry that you fell. Glad that it wasn't worse. As for the exercise, I am at the same point, just feel BLECH! Don't have any energy, and can't breathe properly because of what ever the heck this crud is, so my oxygen exchange is not working properly and the littlest thing winds me. All I really want to do is lay down and sleep. lol In my dreams, althought I did get a one hour nap in yesteray afternoon....Congrats on the size 16 shorts. Isn't that the best feeling, when you put on something that didn't fit, and TADA!..it fits, and you almost waited too long to try them again, and now thy are almost too big?!?! I love that feeling, except for the fact that then I have something else that I need to get rid of! lol Have a great weekend and enjoy your day off Sunday!

Oh Sandy, I am also so sorry about your fall. Hope you feel better soon. I'm sure that aches and pain are related to the fall itself. Congrats on moving into your size 16. Keep up the fantastic work. You will be in 14's before you know it. Enjoy the rest of your evening and have a restful week-end.:)

Ouchies!! Sorry you fell - that must have been scary! Yay about your shorts! I have noticed my weight hardly changing lately but I am getting more soft and squidgy - so maybe you are like me and losing size even when the weight is stubborn...

Laurie, mostly I feel like an idiot when I've fallen - AND I feel like an old lady. I certainly don't remember falling like this when I was younger and if I can do 3x in one year now, my gosh, what will I be doing at 70 or 80?? I've been thinking about doing some yoga (I know nothing about it) to see if I can improve my balance so I can better catch myself when I'm still on my feet. Don't know if that would help or not. I am looking forward to 14's too, but I think that will be my smallest size, if memory serves. Even in my 130's as an adult, I think 14 was "my size."

Squiggs....I like the term squidgy....that's exactly what parts of me have become...chicken neck, flappy arms, squidgy thighs, etc. I'll be working on toning longer than weight loss, I'm afraid. Have a good evening (morning??).

After working out on my Wii Fit for about 2 weeks I noticed my balance was way better and I walked straighter... no 'hunching' when walking or sitting. I recommend Wii Fit for beginners... and its fun to boot! Even noticed I walk more evenly on my feet, I used to lean heavy on the right side.

Sandy, I do think you would benefit from yoga for your balance. I also see improvements after doing yoga on my wii. Hope you aren't too sore from that fall. Be well and be careful.:)

OK...Wii Fit goes on the Christmas list. And yes, the pumpkin chili was actually pretty darn good. It's a recipe off the Atkins site that's referenced many times in various threads, but I could never find where the nutritional info was and I could never find out how many servings and how big. Just a lot of talk about how most of the carbs are veggie carbs (true) and how the pumpkin thickens it (also true), etc. I made it with 1.5 pounds ground beef instead of just the 1 pound used in the recipe. And then I painstakingly measured out my batch, entered the ingredients for a full batch (14 cups)in favorite meals, and then split up every ingredient by 14, so I have a separate entry in favorite meals for 1 cup of the stuff. I wouldn't say it tastes like chili, just a thicker kind of very good soup that I will probably make again!
