Well, even if the scale isn't really budging lately (and some mornings going in the wrong direction) it's really clear that there ARE differences.
For one, energy level. I woke up at 8:30 this morning. I historically used to have a hard time getting up for noon and would often need 10-12 hours of sleep on a Saturday. 7-8 does it fine for me now. I was up, went to the post office, farmer's market, had lunch and worked out already. It's not even 2 pm yet.
Debating whether or not to actually take tomorrow "off". I'm on the 30 day challenge on EA Active and it's pretty much set up that you work out two days in a row, then have one off. Then repeat. I'm toying with getting out there on my bike tomorrow since it's hard to do it any other time than weekends and it's supposed to be too hot but I have a feeling my body actually might need a rest since I've done something everyday since Monday and most of it has been EA Sports Active which kind of kicks my ass since I do it on medium (and usually something after it.)
On a happier note, the farmer's market really is my favorite place to food shop. The one I go to is actually a physical building so there's not just produce vendors. There's various specialty and grocery places too. One of my favorites is this Polish deli/butcher shop. I should point out here that I was raised by my very Polish grandparents so kielbasi, pierogi, etc are like comfort food to me and there's something about the scent of smoked meat that I love. However, this place is awesome even beyond the homemade kielbasi since they make their own hams and turkeys and you can actually get cold cuts that aren't all filler and water. Their low salt ham is out of this world and their turkey actually tastes like it came from a turkey. (If you've ever gotten turkey from a deli you know what I'm talking about here.) They also have all kinds of vendors. Today's scores included the turkey I mentioned, a kielbasi (for when I go visit some relatives), a wonderful fresh loaf of rye bread, tomatoes, sicilian eggplant (yes, more eggplant parm), zucchini, apples, green peppers, and some really gorgeous multicolored peppers. My fridge runneth over with produce these days since I still have nectarines, peaches, corn, hot peppers, jalapenos and sweet potatoes from the last week or so. I also still have a TON of that homemade salsa (hopefully I can eat it all before it spoils.) I really love cooking with such fresh pretty stuff.
Part of me thinks though that this is how everyone shopped/ate a few decades ago before the advent of overprocessed crap that seems to predominate most grocery stores these days. You went to the butcher, to the dairy, to the local farm stand for food. You didn't eat a ton of crap that you can't pronounce. Back then people ate things that were actually food, not "food product" or whatever. We evolved as a species eating things that we could gather, hunt or grow. Not things manufactured in a chemistry lab.
Not that things that come from a lab are tasty but they aren't actually food. I ate a lot in the past most of it really wasn't food and I think that's a big change in why my energy is so much higher these days. Sure, the exercise has a LOT to do with it, I'm sure but I bet a lot of it is because I actually eat things that are food, things that my body can use and benefit from, not thing that are loaded with so much preservatives that they're still good next month even if you leave them out.
Anyway, heading to a friend's birthday BBQ tonight so I need to shower/dress and pick up a present.
Affirmation for today There is no shortcut or way around problems and challenges. The only way out is through. Even though it's tough and painful, in the end it's worth it.
